Rubin’s Vase / Illusion

Class: Little Picasso’s (Age 4-6)

I decided to add 2 more Little Picasso classes to the schedule after our Tues class had been full for 6 months. We now offer this class T/TH and SAT – see class info page for more times, & info.

Rubin Vase

We recently talked about how we can use art to play tricks on the eye. I showed the class examples of  “Rubin’s Vase” and discussed the word “Illusion”. Once the younger kids were able to see either the vase or the face, it was hard for them to focus in on the second image, but it was still interesting.

Next we made our own Rubin’s Vase using our own face!
The kids had fun and the parents loved having this special keepsake.

First I traced their profile onto a folded 9x12 piece of black paper.

Then we cut the profile line & opened the paper to reveal our vase.

Then cut out the flowers; exercising fine motor muscles.
