Food, A creative Outlet – Dough Boys

If you’ve never made Dough Boys, you have to try it! It’s really fun for the kids from start to finish. Warning: This will involve knives & fire so of course, please supervise and do what’s right for your comfort level as a parent.

First, you will need a branch around 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter and shave the bark off of one end. After a little instruction, I let my son whittle his own branch when he was 6 1/2 and he did really well. It was awesome how accomplished he felt!

Next you need to gather your ingredients and get started…
Averyboo Arts(1) We made these while camping so I pre-packaged some cheese & sauce to make pizza dough boys for dinner…
(2) Then made marshmallow, chocolate dough boys for dessert. You can fill them with anything you like – be creative! You will need refrigerated biscuit dough to create the pocket.
(3) Take a single biscuit & stretch it out.
(4) Then wrap it around your stick, making sure it’s sealed all around. We find that it cooks more evenly throughout if the dough is stretched a bit thin.

Averyboo Arts(5) Oh yeah, and you will need a fire 🙂 This is great camp food! We’ve also made these over our BBQ in the backyard.
(6) Hold the dough boys over the flames, turning constantly. You want the biscuit to start puffing up first so that you know the inside is cooking. Then you can hold it closer to the flame to make it nice and golden.
(7) Let it cool down for a minute before removing from the stick, then fill it with your favorite ingredients. Hold the opening together to help keep the heat inside & melt your goodies.
(8) ENJOY!
