Food, A creative Outlet: Valentine’s Day

I made this yummy Valentine Breakfast for my family yesterday. Both my husband and I had to work, so breakfast was the only opportunity I had to do my stuff.

It was pretty easy… Use a large cookie cutter to make the heart-shaped bread, cook it up in your preferred french-toasty-way, layer with Nutella, whipped cream cheese, fresh strawberries (mix with a little sugar to make them juicy), drizzle the whole thing with agave nectar (or syrup), and top with whipping cream and a shake of cinnamon.

And remember to spray whip cream in your kids’ mouth too, just for fun 🙂

Food, A creative Outlet – Dough Boys

If you’ve never made Dough Boys, you have to try it! It’s really fun for the kids from start to finish. Warning: This will involve knives & fire so of course, please supervise and do what’s right for your comfort level as a parent.

First, you will need a branch around 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter and shave the bark off of one end. After a little instruction, I let my son whittle his own branch when he was 6 1/2 and he did really well. It was awesome how accomplished he felt!

Next you need to gather your ingredients and get started…
Averyboo Arts(1) We made these while camping so I pre-packaged some cheese & sauce to make pizza dough boys for dinner…
(2) Then made marshmallow, chocolate dough boys for dessert. You can fill them with anything you like – be creative! You will need refrigerated biscuit dough to create the pocket.
(3) Take a single biscuit & stretch it out.
(4) Then wrap it around your stick, making sure it’s sealed all around. We find that it cooks more evenly throughout if the dough is stretched a bit thin.

Averyboo Arts(5) Oh yeah, and you will need a fire 🙂 This is great camp food! We’ve also made these over our BBQ in the backyard.
(6) Hold the dough boys over the flames, turning constantly. You want the biscuit to start puffing up first so that you know the inside is cooking. Then you can hold it closer to the flame to make it nice and golden.
(7) Let it cool down for a minute before removing from the stick, then fill it with your favorite ingredients. Hold the opening together to help keep the heat inside & melt your goodies.
(8) ENJOY!

Dragon Cake, Knight Party – Part2

This is the Dragon cake I made for my son’s Knight Themed Birthday Party. This cake is all over the internet and you can find the original instructions here. My son had a special request; however, he wanted the dragon’s insides to be a “rainbow”…

After the candles were blown out...

First, you will need to separate the cake batter into 6 bowls & tint them with food coloring..

Drop the batter into an 8-9" pan, layering each color. Do not mix. I tried to create a marble effect by dragging a toothpick through the different colors, but it didn't really make a difference.

I needed 6 candles for my 6 year old. I used these long, slim candles to create fire coming out of the dragon's mouth. To bend them, I dunked them into hot water for 1-2 seconds at a time & gently shaped them the way I wanted.

Didn't get a great picture of the cake all lit-up, but it looked really cool (trust me)! My son loved it 🙂

Sunday – Breakfast In Bed

Today’s breakfast: Swedish Pancakes!
I used Kungsörnen Swedish Pancake and Waffle Mix available at Trader Joe’s & Ikea.
You can serve them with anything sweet like fresh fruit, preserves, whipped cream or make savory with spinach & eggs. Simple, yummy and we can eat it in bed!
